Starting today, we are inviting you to join us in a church-wide fast on Tuesdays through December 17. Pastor Gary’s heart for this time of fasting is this:
As we head into the holiday season, we are praying it is a time of harvest for the church and our ministries, and an opportunity to reach the community.
We encourage you to seek the Lord regarding what you will fast, whether it is a meal, social media, tv, etc. We just ask that whatever you choose to fast, you directly replace with a time of prayer. For example, if you decide to fast food, simply skip one meal and dedicate the time you would normally spend eating that meal to prayer instead.
As with any period of fasting, while our heart looks to the harvest of the holiday season, the ultimate desire is to align ourselves, our ministries, our church to the Lord.
As you begin your fast today, remember these two Scriptures:
“Abba, Father,” he cried out, “everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” – Mark 14:36
And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get. But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face. Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. – Matthew 6:16-18
